What to See in Marsala in One or Two Days
History, Sea, and Wine in Western Sicily
Marsala is the largest municipality in the province of Trapani, with a historic center rich in Arab influences, built on the ruins of the ancient Punic city of Lilibeo. A city full of history, but also with crystalline seas and beautiful beaches such as Punta Tramontana, San Teodoro, Marausa, and Lido Signorino. Famous for Garibaldi's Thousand Landing and the wine that bears its name, Marsala offers the perfect mix of culture, landscape, and gastronomic tradition. Here we suggest an itinerary to discover the best of the city in one or two days.
The Historic Center
Ancient gates and elegant squares
Start from the historic center with the remains of the ancient city walls: Porta Garibaldi, where Giuseppe Garibaldi and the Thousand passed on May 11, 1860, and Porta Nuova. Along Via XI Maggio, "il Cassaro," admire Liberty-style buildings and historic palaces. In Piazza della Repubblica stands the Cathedral with its Baroque façade and two bell towers housing works of art. Not far away, Palazzo VII Aprile, Piazzetta Purgatorio, and Piazza dell'Addolorata complete the journey through the heart of the city.

Seafront and Capo Boero
Strolls with views of the Egadi Islands
The itinerary continues with Villa Cavallotti, a pleasant spot to stroll and relax surrounded by greenery. The seafront leads to Capo Boero, the westernmost point of Sicily, from where you can spot the Egadi Islands suspended on the horizon. Daily boat tours, excursions, and mini-cruises depart from the port to explore this enchanting archipelago. A perfect place to pause at sunset and watch the sun sink into the Mediterranean.
Museums and Archaeological Heritage
From culture to Roman antiquity
During your stay, it’s worth visiting the Tapestry Museum, the Archaeological Museum, and the Art Gallery housed within the beautiful Convent of Carmine complex. Nearby, the Archaeological Park, also known as the Insula Romana, allows you to admire fascinating remnants of antiquity. Make sure to include a stop at the wineries to taste Marsala DOC and other typical local wines. The Stagnone Salt Pans, a paradise of white dunes and ancient windmills, offer the opportunity to explore the beautiful Isola di Mothya.
